I finished my apprenticeship almost 10 years ago. It has been a weird but worthwhile journey. When I first started piercing I knew that this industry would keep me enthralled for as long as it has and still does to this day. It’s rare that someone gets to say that they love their job. I love my job. Piercing has brought me more joys than I ever expected.
I’m not afraid to be honest. You can ask anyone I’ve ever pierced. I will tell you the truth even if I know it will cost me money. If your anatomy isn’t the proper candidate for a piercing I will make sure you know and understand why. I believe that if I want people to be honest with me, I need to be honest with them. I want you to be happy with me and even more so with your piercing.
I am a firm believer in sterility. This, to me, is the most important part of every piercing. Every piercing I do is sterile. Depending on the client’s needs, I use sterile latex or nitrile gloves. I do my entire piercing in a sterile field. Every tool or piece of jewelry I use is run through a hospital grade autoclave. Every needle I use is E.O. gas sterilized. When you get pierced by me I make sure you know and understand each and everything I will be using is sterile.
Over the years I have made a lot of friends working in this industry. When I first started piercing I was fortunate enough to work with some of my best friends. Even though it was a new experience it was always fun. My friends were with me every day and made long days shorter. I started managing my first shop shortly after my apprenticeship was over. I had a knack for talking to people and making them feel welcome. I truly do love my job and because of that I feel it pours out into the client. After a few years managing my first shop, I felt it was time to move on. I started working at Hurricane Tattoo on October 8th 2008. It was one of the scariest but proudest moments in my life. I went from working at a well-established shop to making a leap of faith into something brand new. I needed to be the best piercer and manager that I could so we would make it. Well, we made it!
Managing Hurricane Tattoo for almost 6.5 years was a blast. In that time I did my best to make everyone that I could as happy as possible. I’ve met so many wonderful people and pierced so many awesome folks. When it came time for Hurricane Tattoo to transition into Modern Moose Studios I saw myself at a crossroad. I could move on with my life and leave piercing behind or continue on with the wonderful journey I’ve been on for so long. After a little deliberation, my mind was made up. I wanted to continue doing what I have loved for so long.
My best experiences in piercing and tattooing have always been when I ‘m working with friends. I consider everyone at this shop a good friend of mine. I am confident that I am in the best shop I have ever worked in. Everyone here at this shop is truly passionate about their craft. The atmosphere here is almost intoxicating. I look forward to coming to work every day. When you love what you do for a living, it doesn’t feel like work.
